Everything was dark. No light. Just plain darkness of the deepest sort; the kind that you imagined the monsters lurking in as a child. I was running. I had to escape--wait. Escape what? What was there to escape? But, yes, there it is--thtat horrifying feeling of something pursuing you that you can't escape. The sound of a little girl's laughter floated by, making the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I tripped in the darkness, falling on my face. The sound of the little girl's laughter drew closer. I panicked, fear filling me up and tightening in my chest so much that it hurt. I got up, running again. And then, suddenly, something appeared up ahead--a light? Yes, a light! A feeling of relief iterrupted the panic as i neared, slowing to a walk. IT was an old-fashioned Victorian street lamp. I walked around it in a circle, confused. What was this doing here? THe darkness should have swallowed it long ago. Suddenly, there was a shape next to it that wasn't there before. A girl? She was shaking. "Hey, are you all right?" I asked. Was she crying? The eerie laughter whispered past my ear again. "Hey--" I began, placing my hand on her shoulder. Suddenly, I realized she wasn't crying at all--she was laughing. I backed away in horror as she lifted her head, the laughter growing louder. My mouth was open in a silent scream of terror as i looked at her face. Or, rather, where her face should've been. She had no eyes, just empty black holes, and she had no mouth, just stitches that went up both sides of her face. She stood up, her light blue dress stained with a deep crusted red. "Veronica," she said, stepping towards me. I shook, frozen in terror. "Roni, I've been waiting for you for a long time." Her voice was soft, echoing. "N-no! Go away! Stay away!" I screamed, shaking. "Roni, I've been waiting a long time," she repeated, extending a bloodstained hand towards my face. I stared, wanting to run but finding that I couldn't. Suddenly, the Victorian street lamp flared, a shape appearing from behind it. It lunged for the girl, who turned, screaming with rage as her stitches popped and she disappeared into the darkness. I stared mortified at the creature who stepped towards me, his paws walking on the air. His fur changed from different shades of blue, green, and purple as he moved. I could only describe this thing as a cat, but I knew that he was something more. "She almost had you, Veronica." "D-do I know you?" He rolled over onto his back, purring as his blue eyes stared at me inquiringly. "Do you know me?" he asked back. I balked. Did I know him? "I... don't know..." I said truthfully. He closed his eyes and smiled a wide smile. "No matter. You will." "I... will?" I was so confused. "You're suffering memory loss from being stuck in the Rabbit Hole for so long. I'll transport you out." "Wait-!" I began, but suddenly everything was spinning. I closed my eyes, and everything stopped. I opened my eyes. I was in my room, my blue-grey cat in my lap. 'Oh, hey Chess." I said, sighing. It was all just a nightmare. I picked Chess up and left, not noticing the curious way his fur shimmered when he moved.

Sorry if there's any spelling mistakes or capitalization issues... I wrote this on my Mac, and it's hard for me to type on it's keyboard for some freakin' reason. Meh.
Anyways, one of my more favorite short stories. Hehehe *mischievious chuckle* this was enjoyable and freaky to write.
